The problem with most makeup is that it contains ingredients that will clog your pores and aggravate hormonal acne, and if you have sensitive skin like me, it may even irritate your skin and cause dermatitis. Dermatitis is a skin rash that can be caused by literally anything that touches your skin that you might be allergic to. Stress can also trigger dermatitis by causing you to produce more cortisol, which causes an inflammatory response in your body.
I actually started wearing hypoallergenic makeup a few years before my acne breakouts stated, when I developed dermatitis below my eyebrow. The dermatologist advised me that the rash was probably caused by ingredients in my makeup, so I started researching brands that are hypoallergenic that would not irritate my skin. Unfortunately, most brands of makeup contain harmful ingredients, but I managed to find several products that I like that do not irritate my skin! I still kept some of my other products such as eyeshadow palettes and extra-thick mascara and I wear them on occasion, however I noticed that if I wear them several days in a row the rash below my eyebrows starts to return. If you’ve ever had this problem, or are suffering from hormonal acne, whatever makeup you’re using now is probably making the situation worse, so you’ll want to switch to products with fewer, non-irritating ingredients such as the ones below.
best makeup for sensitive & acne prone skin:
Beauty Deals Mineral Sheer Tint SPF 20 Tinted Moisturizer
This tinted moisturizer is my favorite! It comes in a few different shades and is SPF 20 (having SPF in your makeup is essential!) It is best applied by squeezing a drop directly onto your fingers and rubbing it into your skin the way you would a regular moisturizer. It gives skin a natural glow and will not clog pores.
bareMinerals Strength & Length Serum Infused Mascara
bareMinerals is a popular brand, probably best known for their powder foundation, but my favorite product of theirs is this mascara. It is light while still being effective, washes off easily, and a different type of want that prevents clumping. If you want a natural, every day look while still having the appearance of long lashes, then this mascara is for you!
Hypoallergenic mascara tends to be on the lighter side, and I am still trying to hunt some down that delivers a heavier, more dramatic look for special occaisons. Once I find some, I will be sure to share it in this blog!
Almay Intense i-Color Everyday Neutrals
Almay is an affordable hypoallergenic brand that you can find online or at your local drugstore! They have a lot of different options for eyeshadow. My favorite is this neutral pallette.
Almay Eyeliner Pencil
I like this eyeliner pencil because it has long lasting color and sharpens itself. This one is dark brown, but Almay makes eyeliner pencils in a variety of other styles and colors such as black, navy and lighter brown.
Glossier Balm Dotcom
I am not really much for wearing dramatic lip color, so most of the time I use this lip balm from Glossier. It is of course hypoallergenic and comes in a variety of different flavors (mint is my favorite) and you can also buy it in a 3-pack if you can’t decide!
Almay Color & Care Lip Oil In Stick
This color stick is great for when you want a more bold lip but don’t want the made up appearance of lipstick. It comes in six different shades and all of them are a bit sparkly, so if want some sparkle but don’t feel like going the eye makeup route, then this color stick is perfect for you!
Blush by Almay
This blush in Nearly Nude is great because it is sort of a 2-in-1 blush/bronzer. The other shades are more pink, so I would recommend this shade if you are going for a more natural look.
bareMinerals Original Liquid Mineral Concealer
I’ve used many different brands and types of concealer but this one is for sure my favorite. It provides good coverage for acne and dark circles but doesn’t feel heavy and cakey like others I have tried. Whether you are like me and only use a few dabs of concealer at a time, or if you prefer to go all out with your makeup, this product is an excellent choice.
I hope you like these recommendations! ❤ 🙂
