Post-acne dark spots are the worst- they last even longer than acne! And figuring out how to treat them when you have sensitive, acne-prone skin can be a long and difficult process. You don’t want to treat them with something that will cause you to break out again, which will leave you with more spots, and then repeat the cycle over again.
Once my hormonal acne subsided, I was left with spots all over my chin and jaw area that wouldn’t go away. I tried loads of products that either didn’t work or made me break out, including vitamin e oil, diluted tea tree oil, microdart patches and retinol. That’s not to say these things don’t work for other people, but for me they were not a good fit. Read on to find out what has finally helped fade my post-acne spots!
The best product I have found for fading acne spots is vitamin c oil, which according to WebMD, “is known to reduce hyperpigmentation by reducing the effects of the tyrosine enzyme. The enzyme is responsible for the production of melanin that gives your skin its color. Vitamin C also functions as a brightening agent. It has properties that reduce dark spots without changing your skin color.”
I use Vitamin C Serum from Ramona Cline (see link on the right) which I got from my esthetician. I apply it 2 times a day to the areas with dark spots and have been very happy with it so far, as it brightens my skin and fades my acne spots without causing breakouts.
There are some important rules to follow when using vitamin C serum. It is acidic, so you should start out applying only a small amount to make sure it does not cause irritation. It will also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so it is important to always apply SPF when wearing vitamin C serum (I like to wear it overnight for this reason.)
